BASIC GRAPHIC DESIGN

Task 1 : Role of Graphic

Meaning of LOGO

Recognizable and distinctive graphic design, stylized name, unique symbol, or other device for identifying anorganization. It is affixed, included, or printed on alladvertisingbuildingscommunications, literature, products, stationery, and vehicles. Not to be confused with a brand, which identifies a product or family of products. Also calledlogotype.
Many have wondered what the four circles in this automaker’s logo mean. Well the four circles represent the 4 companies that were a part of the Auto-Union Consortium in 1932, namely, DKW,Horch, Wanderer and Audi .

Example

ICON

Icons are part of the graphical user interface and belong to the much larger topic of the history of the graphical user interface that has largely supplanted the text-based interface for casual use. The user can activate them using a mouse, pointer, finger, or recently voice commands. Their placement on the screen, also in relation to other icons, may provide further information to the user about their usage. In activating an icon, the user can move directly into and out of the identified function without knowing anything further about the location or requirements of the file or code.

Example

WEBSITE

A set of interconnected webpages, usually including a homepage, generally located on the same server, and preparedand maintained as a collection of information by a person, group, or organization.
Usage Note: The transition from World Wide Web site to Web site to website as a single uncapitalized word mirrorsthe development of other technological expressions which have tended to take unhyphenated forms as they becomemore familiar. Thus email is gaining ground over the forms E-mail and e-mail, especially in texts that are moretechnologically oriented. Similarly, there is an increasing preference for closed forms like homepage, online, and printout.

Example

CORPORATE STATIONARY

The words stationary and stationery are often confused. Stationary is an adjective which means ‘not moving or not intended to be moved’, as in a car collided with a stationary vehicle, whereas stationery is a noun which means ‘writing and other office materials’, as in I wrote to my father on the hotel stationery.

BOOK DESIGN

book is a set of written, printed, illustrated, or blank sheets, made of inkpaperparchment, or other materials, usually fastened together to hinge at one side. A single sheet within a book is called a leaf, and each side of a leaf is called a page. A set of text-filled or illustrated pages produced in electronic format is known as an electronic book, or e-book.
Books may also refer to works of literature, or a main division of such a work. In library and information science, a book is called a monograph, to distinguish it from serial periodicals such as magazinesjournals ornewspapers. The body of all written works including books is literature. In novels and sometimes other types of books (for example, biographies), a book may be divided into several large sections, also called books (Book 1, Book 2, Book 3, and so on). An avid reader of books is a bibliophile or colloquially, bookworm.
A shop where books are bought and sold is a bookshop or bookstore. Books can also be borrowed fromlibrariesGoogle has estimated that as of 2010, approximately 130,000,000 unique titles had been published

Line

A line is a mark made by a moving point and having psychological impact according to its direction, weight, and the variations in its direction and weight. It is an enormously useful and versatile graphic device that is made to function in both visual and verbal ways. It can act as as a symbolic language, or it can communicate emotion through its character and direction.

Colour

The meaning of colors can vary depending on culture and circumstances. Each color has many aspects to it but you can easily learn the language of color by understanding a few simple concepts which.
color is a form of non verbal communication. It is not a static energy and its meaning can change from one day to the next with any individual - it all depends on what energy they are expressing at that point in time.
For example, a person may choose to wear red on a particular day and this may indicate they are ready to take action, or they may be passionate about what they are going to be doing that day, or again it may mean that they are feeling angry that day, on either a conscious or subconscious level. All are traits of the color red.

Task 3: Typograhy

Typography (from the Greek words τύπος typos "form" and γράφειν graphein "to write") is the art and technique of arranging type to make written language most appealing to learning and recognition. The arrangement of type involves selecting typefacespoint sizeline length, line-spacing ( leading ), letter-spacing (tracking), and adjusting the space within letters pairs ( kerning ). Type design is a closely related craft, sometimes considered part of typography; most typographers do not design typefaces, and some type designers do not consider themselves typographers. In modern times, typography has been put in film, television and online broadcasts to add emotion to communication.
Typography is performed by typesetterscompositors, typographers, graphic designersart directors, manga artistscomic book artistsgraffiti artistsclerical workers, and everyone else who arranges type for a product. Until the Digital Age, typography was a specialized occupation. Digitization opened up typography to new generations of visual designers and lay users, and David Jury, Head of Graphic Design at Colchester Institute in England, states that "typography is now something everybody does
